Volume Unit Meter - VUM-2x16
 

 
  • A very small stereo VU meter with 16 dots per channel based on Microchip PIC16F88  microcontroller. This board had been designed using all SMD components to practice SMD soldering and having a nice visual display at your work bench. Its evident that more practice is required and allignment of the LED is less then squared.

    Heart of the circuit is PIC16F88 microcontroller which is pin compatible to PIC16F18x7 thanks to Microchip upward compatibility to newer processors. One small issue is that code will need to be recompiled for either processor. With the limited number of pins on the controller, LEDs are multiplexed which does not require external LED drivers.
    Audio signal if fed through coupling capacitors to eliminate DC voltage potential and and be more responsive. 1117-5.0 voltage regulator drops voltage down so that the controller can safely operate with higher voltage inputs
